Recently Xbox Boss Phil Spencer gave an interview where he talked about their upcoming next-gen console, Project Scarlett. He had some good things to say about their approach to console gaming and Microsoft's commitment to it as well as the Xbox's plan to match PS5's price and power points. Phil Spencer made it clear that Xbox plans to compete with PlayStation next-generation but he completely failed to mention or talk about competing with their exclusives.
This is a problem to me because Phil Spencer needs to understand that where they really need to focus on competing is with the quality and the size and scope of their first party games. I'm happy that Microsoft is still committed to the console space but the truth is they simply won't stand a chance against Sony's PlayStation 5 if they don't plan to bring some massive new AAA gaming experiences to the table. Microsoft will not only have to go head to head with hardware but, more importantly, with the software.
