FILM-MAKING WORKSHOP FOR BEGINNERS 2019: A REPORT
A film-making workshop was conducted in school by Mistri Labs Films, a film production house based out of Nainital. The workshop comprised 14 sessions of 3 hours each, spread over 4 months, from July to October. 23 students participarted in the workshop.
The students were shown films of renowned filmmakers Satyajit Ray and Abbas Kiarostami to introduce them to World Cinema. The workshop was practice oriented, in which the concept of Montage was introduced to students through exercises which involved taking 10 shots and stitching them together to make meaningful sequences of them.
The 23 students were then distributed into 3 groups. Each group was assigned to make a film. The students wrote the scripts for their respective film, after which they were thrust into the pre-production stage which involved choosing locations, casting, shot division and rehearsals. Once the films were planned to their satisfaction, the students shot their films. The process led to the completion of 3 short films: 'Games', 'The Lonely Boy' and 'Chocolate'.
