BMW R1100|R1150 Steering Head Bearing Replacement

BMW R1100|R1150 Steering Head Bearing Replacement Here’s a quick overview of the process to replace a slightly worn steering head bearing on a BMW R1100 motorcycle: in this case my 60k-mile 1997 R1100R. Once you have the top yoke off, the bearing arrangement and replacement is pretty much the same on all BMW 1100 and 1150 motorcycles as far as I know.

I didn’t video the strip down or bearing removal: that was a simple process of unbolting stuff and pressing the bearing out in a vice. I replaced it with the same make of bearing that came out, which was a Koyo 5204RS (20x47x20.6mm). RS in the number denotes rubber seals.

This is a nice easy job for a Saturday morning. It's easy to clean and check a few other bits while you’re in there.
