Frightening Footage Shows Huge Wildfire Burning near Athens

Nearly 200 firefighters have been battling a huge wildfire on Evia, a Greek Island north of Athens.

Five helicopters and six water-dropping planes were deployed to extinguish the blaze, which is burning through a nature reserve.

Residents of three villages were put on alert for potential evacuation, as the fire left the Greek capital blanketed in smoke.

Two other wildfires are burning through a forest on the northern island of Thassos and through brush and dried weeds near Thebes.

These types of fires are common in Greece during the dry summer months.
