So, you've decluttered and now you're ready to organize?

So, you've decluttered and now you're ready to organize? 💠Declutter first, then organize.

This is going to vary for everyone, but generally after one pass of decluttering your entire home, if you start again, you will find things that you missed. Things that you kept “just in case” you needed them later, but in fact, now see that it’s completely unnecessary to keep things for that reason.

💠If you’re having a hard time organizing things, then there is still too much of it.

If you are finding that there are still things that get left out on the counter, and surfaces tend to collect items, there is probably still have too much in the cupboards.

💠Give every item a place to belong.

Things that don’t have a home float around the house as clutter and get in the way. If it’s important and needed in your home, give it a home of its own.

💠Keep things near where you use them.

↠ Baking supplies near where you bake
↠ Glasses and cups near where you get drinks
↠ Spices near the stove
↠ A key rack/purse hook by the entry door
↠ Toys where the kids play

💠Use organizational items when it makes sense

If you enjoy the look of organizational items, feel free to reward yourself with them after you have simplified your home.

If it makes sense for the space, use baskets, boxes, or dividers. But don't buy organizational items just for the sake of having it.

💠Hooks are helpful!

If you have a coat closet and find that all the coats just get piled in and the door never shuts: replace the bar and hangers with hooks. Place hooks low where the kids can easily reach. Give enough hooks for coats, backpacks, hats, snow pants, etc. With plenty of hooks, it insures that the kids will find a free one when they need it.

If you don’t already have a place for keys- get hooks for your keys as well. Place them just inside the closet door or on the wall near the main door. Get a hook & basket combo if you need a place to put a wallet, headphones, etc.
