MasterChef's Tati reveals odd way they keep in touch with family MasterChef contestants held back tears when they had an emotional reunion with their families on Wednesday night's episode.And now, Melbourne receptionist Tati Carlin has revealed the only way contestants are allowed to stay in contact with their loved ones while filming the series.  Speaking to Ten Daily, Tati revealed the amateur cooks are given a 'house phone' to share - which is actually an old Nokia. Tati here with her husband'The house phone is an old Nokia, a tiny old Nokia that has no internet on it and you can't even take pictures!' she said.     She went on to say some of the younger contestants weren't even born when the phone came out with them struggling to figure out how to 'unlock it'.Tati explained the contestants are only allowed to speak to their loved ones for 10 minutes at a time.       'Ten minutes is really, really short,' she said, 'By the time we talk about the competition and how things are going, we can't tell them much, anyway,' Tati revealed they use an old Nokia'Ten minutes is really, really short,' she said, 'By the time we talk about the competition and how things are going, we can't tell them much, anyway.'Tati added due to the time limitation of the conversations, she wasn't able to tell her husband everything that has been going on.She went on to say the other other option was to write letters, which get sent through the Post Office.      Old school! 'It's old fashioned but it's the best,' said Tati, 'Receiving a letter, it's what everyone dreams of every single day.' She added the contestants are allowed to write to family and friends'It's old fashioned, but it's the best,' said Tati, 'Receiving a letter, it's what everyone dreams of every single day.' On Wednesday night's episode, MasterChef contestants had an emotional reunion for family and friends during the show's dinner party. They were initially tricked into thinking they would be be serving food to a very important chef, only to be surprised by their loved ones.  Joruney: Tati has had a rocky time on the show, with her chilli-packed prawn curry fell foul of Maggie Beer's taste buds and caused the guest judge to visibly choke on her food this monthTati herself has had a challenging time in the competition, with her left mortified earlier this month when chef Maggie Beer struggled with her dish.  She said: 'I know she cooks with chilli but not as much as I do so I have to be very careful so I don't go through to round two.'Sure enough, Maggie turned away from the dish midway through eating it, exclaiming: 'I'm just having some of the rice!'  MasterChef Australia continues on Channel Ten on Thursday at 7.30pm.   On show: MasterChef Australia continues on Channel Ten on Thursday at 7.30pm.
