The Iranian Armed Forces (Persian: نيروهای مسلح جمهوری اسلامی ايران) comprise the Army (Artesh), the Revolutionary Guard Corps (Sepāh) and the Law Enforcement Force (Police) of the Islamic Republic of Iran. These forces total about 523,000 active personnel (not including the Law Enforcement Force).[1] All branches of armed forces fall under the command of General Staff of Armed Forces. The Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics is responsible for planning logistics and funding of the armed forces and is not involved with in-the-field military operational command.
Iran's military, which is equipped with relatively modern sophisticated US-made military equipment delivered before 1979, has been described as the Middle East's "most powerful military force" (exempting Israel) by retired US General John Abizaid.

نیروهای مسلح ایران عبارتند از ارتش (ارتش)، سپاه سپاه پاسداران (سپاه) و نیروی انتظامی جمهوری اسلامی ایران. این نیروها مجموعا حدود 523 هزار کارگر فعال را شامل می شوند (از جمله نیروی انتظامی). [1] تمام شاخه های نیروهای مسلح تحت فرماندهی کل نیروهای مسلح قرار می گیرند. وزارت دفاع و نیروهای مسلح تدارکات مسئولیت برنامه ریزی تدارکات و بودجه نیروهای مسلح را بر عهده دارد و با فرماندهی عملیات نظامی داخلی درگیر نیست.
ارتش ایران، که مجهز به تجهیزات مدرن پیشرفته و پیشرفته آمریکایی است که قبل از سال 1979 تحویل داده شده است، به عنوان "قدرتمندترین نیروی نظامی" خاورمیانه (معاف از اسرائیل) توسط ژنرال بازنشسته ژنرال جان آبیساید توصیف شده است.
