MIC/LINE (formerly named Sound Check) is HYPEBEAST Radio‘s music-centric show that looks to deliver in-depth conversations with your favorite artists, digging into their origin stories and asking the questions you want answered. For our newest episode we have Father as our special guest. Father is one of the most important figures in the new generation of Atlanta’s music scene. He and his record label Awful Records first broke out in 2014 with hit songs “Nokia” and “Look At Wrist”, and that same year he found himself building an underground cult-like following with the release of his first full length project, Young Hot Ebony (2014). Now, two albums later (2015’s Who’s Gonna Get F*cked First? and 2016’s I’m A Piece of Sh*t), Father has decided to end his indie run after signing a label partnership deal with RCA Records. For Father however, he was never against inking a major label deal and sticking to being an independent artist.
“We’ve been doing indie for so long and I was never like, ‘Nah man, I’ll never doing that,’” he says. “It was just a thing of I’m waiting for the correct opportunity to present itself that made sense and this made sense.”
