Weekly Worship provides space for student to explore faith

Weekly Worship provides space for student to explore faith College is a formative experience, where religious students often see a challenge to their faith. Weekly Worship aims to help students focus on their faith and provide an outlet for expression.

EVAN
Weekly Worship is a prayer service held every Thursday night by the Baptist Student Union. The service is a combination of songs, teachings, and collective prayer meant to help students explore their religion.

"We focus on events that allow us to reach out to students on campus, and I play guitar in the worship band too."

Murphy joined the BSU his first year and says that it's helped him grow his faith. The Weekly Worship has been doing a series of parables from the Bible. BSU Director David Kissinger shares the story, while a student works on a painting of it at the same time. The BSU plans on eight weeks of painting, with this being the seventh week.

HOUK

"I think it gives people, like a home here on campus to feel like they have people to confide in, and just friends here on campus. And I also think, overall we try to serve the students by doing handouts and tailgates and give them something fun to do."

EVAN

Houk hopes that this engagement will create a community for students striving the maintain their faith in college. Weekly Worship positions itself as a judgement-free zone for those struggling with issues that conflict with their religion.

MURPHY
"It helps me to relax a lot, just knowing that everything I do is in God's hands. It's not always going to be easy, but I know that God's with me, in anything and everything I do.

EVAN

Weekly Worship is one of several ways the BSU extends its reach to the student body but remains their main approach for speaking directly with students.
