Exactly seven years ago, on November 24, 2012, a fire at Bangladesh's Tazreen Fashions factory killed at least 112 workers. The fire broke out after an alleged short circuit on the ground floor of the building and rapidly spread throughout the nine floors, where garment workers were trapped due to narrow or blocked fire escapes. Most of the victims were found on the second floor, where at least 69 bodies were recovered from. Some workers who were able to escape to the roof of the building were successfully rescued. At the time, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her shock on the death toll and called for a thorough search-and-rescue operation. In November 2013, three safety regulation groups agreed to look into adopting a new unified set of workplace safety standards for clothing manufacturing factories.
