WATCH: Holmes recalls Trump asking about the 'investigation' in phone call

In a Trump impeachment hearing on Nov. 21, David Holmes, a top staffer at the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, said he overheard a conversation between President Donald Trump and Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, in which Trump asked whether the president of Ukraine was going to “do the investigation.” The call came on July 26, the day after Trump asked Ukraine’s president to investigate former vice president and 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden. Holmes further testified the Sondland told him after the call that Trump only cared about the “big stuff” like the “Biden investigation.” In his own public testimony, Sondland has disputed that he mentioned “Biden” to Holmes.
