HISTORY OF THE DAY: Major happenings that took place on this day --On this day in 1949, Baba Saheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar gave the concluding speech at the last meeting of the Constituent Assembly. In this meeting, he described in detail the challenges faced by newly created nation and at the same time suggested ways to deal with those challenges in very restrained terms.

--On the same day in 1960, First subscriber trunk dialing (STD) route was commissioned in India between Kanpur and Lucknow.

--Dwaram Venkataswamy Naidu, one of the most important carnatic music violinists of the 20th century famously known as 'fidelu' Naidu died on this day in 1964. He infused the techniques of both western and Hindustani music into his playing without compromising on the Carnatic music tradition.

--On the same day in 1982, Jhulan Goswami, an all round cricketer and former captain of India national women's cricket team was born. An integral part of the team, Goswami was noted for both her batting and bowling capabilities. In the 2006–07 season, she guided the Indian team to first test series win in England. Goswami is the highest wicket taker in Women's One Day International cricket. She was awarded with Padma Shri in March 2012.
