Union Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik has stated that Goa Shipyard Limited has signed a contract for construction of 2 advanced missile frigates for Indian Navy which is the largest order in the history of the State-based shipyard. The Union Minister was speaking during launching of Offshore Patrol Vessel for Indian Coast Guard.He has also stated that the project will be a stepping stone for GSL to construct weapon-intensive and technologically advanced warships in the future, which will bolster the ‘Make In India’ objective of the Union Government.
Director General of ICG Krishnaswamy Natrajan, Union Secretary Defence Production Subhash Chandra were also present on the occasion.
