Eighty-five-year-old Ouma Katriena Esau in bid to preserve ancient San language Eighty-five-year-old Ouma Katriena Esau is one of the last fluent speakers of the San language -- N/UU. She was the first woman to be inaugurated as leader of the Western N/UU in 2015 - and is trying to preserve the ancient San language. In 2014 Ouma Katriena received the order of the Boabab from former President Jacob Zuma. With constant uphill battles teaching children at her school - she fights on. Esau says she doesn't want the ancient language to die - and remains hopeful that the language will be preserved. She also wants other South Africans to embrace other cultures which will lead to an inclusive South Africa…
