Nylon Ignites and burns quickly and can continue to burn even after the flame is doused off. Nylon starts shrinking from the flame, melts, and drips leaving a hard plastic-like bead. One has to take extreme caution as the dripping nylon can burn and damage the skin by sticking to the skin.
Burning these fabrics will produce black smoke and hazardous fumes. Nylon smells like plastic when burnt.
Real silk burns with white smoke and leaves a fine powdery black ash. The smoke smells like burnt protein (such as burnt meat).
