Today we talk about what to do when your goals or interests are not stable and you keep changing your mind.
First of all, it's a good thing to have your interests and focus evolve over time! You don't want to become stagnant - you want to be in a better spot in the future than you are now. That can't happen without shifting your focus and evolving over time. Scratching that "try something new" itch is a great thing for the evolution and growth of yourself and your business.
Rather than going completely back to the drawing board when you get impatient, adjust your current focus. And do it often so you aren't getting easily bored.
The thing that makes you seem flighty and not committed is when you work hard at something for a while and then ditch it entirely in favor of something completely different. And then six months later you do it again.
That kind of jumping around is great when you are trying to determine your style, focus, and direction. Most of us have to do it for a while to figure out what we want out of life. But if you do it forever you will never build anything of substance.
If you are consistently making adjustments (or pivots) based on your current work then you will still see regular, substantive changes, but they won't seem as extreme or "flighty."
The key to making this work is to find something you are really passionate about. Sometimes that means looking at a long-held passion with a new lens. Sometimes it means trying several things out to see what "fits." If you have an idea of what you love to do, or what lights you up, in broad strokes it becomes a pleasure to try different iterations of that thing and see natural growth and evolution from your starting place.
DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE CURRENTLY DOING WHAT YOU'VE BEEN PUT ON THIS EARTH TO DO (OR ARE YOU DOING SOMETHING ELSE)?
