Here is a machine knitting cable edge scarf with hand-manipulated ribbing done on an LK150 knitting machine. I use a light worsted weight yarn (medium) of cotton/acrylic blend. Try to avoid pure cotton yarn because it can get too stiff for cable stitch. _______________

The part one shows you the cast one, 1x1 and 1x2 ribbing, and cable stitch. The next part (Part 2) will be about finishing up, cast off, and fixing mistakes.
This is a simple project you can finish in a weekend or less. You can modify the design into an infinity scarf or baby blanket.

Here is the basic cable edge scarf pattern for LK150 knitting machine:
Mast tension 7, carriage tension 8. Carriage set to knit stockinette stitches
E-wrap cast on 60 stitches (L30 to R30)
Knit 8 rows
Select stitches to reform (2, 4, 6, 8th stitches from the edge, and every 3rd stitches in the center)
Drop down the selected stitches above, and reform back with a latch tool.
Knit 8 rows
Reform only the outer (edge) 8 stitches (2, 4, 6, and 8the stitches from the edge)
Do a "cable crossing" (take out the 4 edge stitches on the 3 prongs + 1 prong tool, transfer the next 4 stitches to the outer 4 stitches, transfer the 4 stitches on hold back to the empty needles)
On the other side, do the same (reform the stitches, do a cable crossing)
Pull out cable needles before knitting the next row
* Now start the repeat:
knit 16 rows
reform the edge stitches and do a cable crossing. Pull out the edge needles

Keep repeating *to* until the length you like.
