Urge your California legislators to vote YES on the California Plastic Pollution Reduction Act!

Urge your California legislators to vote YES on the California Plastic Pollution Reduction Act! Earlier this summer, a study by the Aquarium and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) found a startling amount of tiny plastic particles in Monterey Bay, from the ocean's surface all the way to the seafloor.

Most of this plastic pollution started out as the sort of everyday stuff we buy, use once and throw away — like water and soda bottles, take-out food containers and other packaging.

If we don’t change course, the amount of plastic production flowing into the ocean is expected to double in just six years. We need an immediate solution to match the scale of the problem — and California is ready to lead.

Right now, the state legislature is considering the most ambitious single-use waste reduction policy in the country. The California Plastic Pollution Reduction Act would require manufacturers to help reduce the amount of single-use plastic we produce in the first place, and it contains measures to ensure that what’s thrown into recycling bins actually gets recycled.
