Tokyo Shimbun says Japan's export curbs are definitely an economic retaliation against S. Korea

A Japanese newspaper has slammed Tokyo's export curbs of high-tech materials to South Korea,... saying it is DEFINITELY an act of retaliation against Seoul's Supreme Court ruling last year... on Japan's wartime forced labor.
Tokyo Shimbun on Saturday gave several reasons why the export restrictions are retaliatory in nature.
One... is a statement by Masaaki Akaike( ), a Japanese politician from the Liberal Democratic Party,... who suggested that Japan cut off the supply of etching gas to Korea back in January.
The paper also cited Japan's Deputy Prime Minister Taro Aso's statement in March,... where he hinted at actions such as restrictions on remittances and tighter visa controls.
However, the report said... Tokyo is intent on denying that their trade controls are an act of retaliation... amid concerns it could worsen bilateral ties.
