Hong Kong’s anti-government protests have often turned into violent clashes, with police using tear gas, pepper spray and rubber bullets to disperse angry crowds. Over the past two months, self-organized first-aid teams, who are not affiliated with the city’s emergency healthcare services, have sprung up to help anyone injured in the confrontations.
The volunteers come from different walks of life: doctors, nurses, medical students and others with first-aid training.
Inkstone followed one such first-aid group during the July 27 protest in Hong Kong’s rural town of Yuen Long.
