In response to MP Sylvia Lim's query on how the Government would work with overseas-based online retailers of Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs), Senior Minister of State for Ministry of Transport Lam Pin Min shared in Parliament on 5 August 2019 that Land Transport Authority (LTA) had been working with online shopping platforms to educate consumers and retailers on the regulations with regard to PMDs. He acknowledged that while it would not be possible to work with every single online retailer, it was important to have a mandatory inspection regime to ensure that PMDs used here meet safety requirements. Public education on the use of compliant devices would also be necessary.
