The Cult of Hockey's "Can Ken Holland cash in on buyer's market?" podcast

The Cult of Hockey's The Edmonton Oilers don’t have a ton of cap space to spend, and they’re not in the market for a d-man, but there are a few enticing UFA forwards out there. Can they entice a strong player, like Patrick Maroon was last year, to sign a one year deal with a cap hit in the range of $2.0 to $2.5 million per year?

The opportunity to play with Connor McDavid, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Leon Draisaitl is wide open for the taking. If a forward like Michael Ferland signed in Edmonton and made the most of that opportunity, he could cash in next summer, either with the Oilers or another team.

Also, a handful of teams are pressed up against the cap with several strong young players to sign. If the Edmonton Oilers can't find the forward help they need through Plans A or B -- which would be an unrestricted free agent signing or a trade -- they should go to Plan RFA and make an offer sheet to one of the unsigned young forwards.
