In Depth - National Register of Citizens The National Register of Citizens, or NRC, is the list of Indian citizens in Assam. It was prepared in 1951, following the census of 1951.

The list is being updated for the first time since 1951 to identify illegal migration into Assam.

The NRC is being updated under the monitoring of the Supreme Court and the final list is scheduled to be released on July 31.

Ahead of the deadline, more than one lakh people have been excluded from the draft National Register of Citizens in Assam after they were found ineligible.
