Design Thesis Proposal DTP C001 CH02 M02 - Types of Research Methodology
Manuscript:
There are several differences between different frameworks, but more than the differences there are more
similarities. Hence, for this Module we'll only be discussing two types-
Qualitative vs QUantitative
Based on their definitions, I would say these two are the most important and they are the parent frameworks, out
of which other framework develops or can develop.
Qualitative
Let us say, you are talking about what is Morality of a Human being. You have a new idea, a new philosophy based
on your experiences and readings and learnings. You start to do your research and want to prepare a Research
document. The path or the methodology which you'll select one way or the other, will be a Qualitative framework.
A qualitative framework is when the methodology and the methods are based on literature, ideas, philosophies etc,
where it is just you and the brains which is doing the work and maybe can finish it by being inside a single room
throughout the time.
Quantitative
Consider that based on your previous research, about Morality now you want to find out exactly how many human
beings are following the idea of morality in your neighbourhood. Now, that is data and statistics and hence these
kind of research are known as Quantitative frameworks.
More or less, all the frameworks or the methodologies are derivatives of these two frameworks.
Keeplooking, beinspired, stay tunes as the next chapter will discuss about components of the frameworks.
