While sitting at his coal fire, David Wood tells us about the mines of the early Victorian era and how they'd employ young children, contrasting it with the chores and paper rounds of modern times. And then we actually visit a coal mine and see what conditions would have been like back then - how would you fancy working down there? This episode was originally broadcast on Tuesday, 13th October, 1992.
