This blocked ear wax removal extraction procedure is performed by UK pioneer and world-leading endoscopic ear wax removal specialist Mr Neel Raithatha (Consultant Audiologist) aka 'The Wax Whisperer’ at his clinic in Oadby, Leicester, UK. Ear wax removal is necessary when ear wax build up becomes impacted. Symptoms causes by earwax blockage include: earache (otalgia), conductive hearing loss, blocked ear, vertigo, tinnitus, itchiness and irritation, occlusion etc.
The client attended with an outer ear infection (Otitis Externa) with accompanying ear discharge (otorrhea) in the right ear. The discharge had settled onto his eardrum and affected his hearing.
The client’s head was a bit unsteady and so I had to get him positioned correctly for the procedure. I then commended endoscopic ear suction with a Zoellner suction probe, extracting a large piece of infected debris. I then attached a Fine End Gauge 18 as there was a lot of clarenetting due to the dead skin on his auditory meatus. In addition, a Fine End Gauge 18 is more suitable for more delicate procedures around the eardrum, as it produces less suction noise and is also less atraumatic if it comes in contact with the sensitive bony medial portion of the auditory meatus and tympanic membrane.
I managed to remove as much infection and dead skin as it was safely possible, especially as the client’s head was very stable. A small blister was present in the superior quadrant of the tympanic membranes caused by dead skin being peeled off. This was not noticeable to the client. A referral has been sent to the client’s GP for medical treatment to resolve his underlying Otitis Externa.
