This is a video showing old photographs of famous silent movie star, Charlie Chaplin, in color. These formally black and white photos have been colorized by expert colorizers from around the globe. These pictures range from the early 1900s all the way up to the 1950s. Also alongside Chaplin, Albert Einstein, Orson Welles, Winston Churchill and others all feature in color as well from previously black and white photos. Charlie Chaplin was an English actor, director and music composer best known for his work during the silent era of films. He was born on 16 April 1889 to Charlie Chaplin Sr., an entertainer himself, and Hannah Chaplin, who was also an actress. As a young boy, Charlie Chaplin Jr. was living in poverty; his mother was mentally ill and his father was absent for much of his childhood. He was sent to a workhouse twice during his early days. He began performing at only 14 but did not begin working in films until he was 25, when he moved to the United States after signing with the Fred Karno Company.
Chaplin was the most famous person in his generation and influenced thousands of people. He directed, composed and starred in many of his films and is best known for his character “The Tramp” which starred in almost all of his 35 films with Keystone Studios. Charlie Chaplin continued to make silent films well into the era of talkies, with his first coming in 1940, The Great Dictator; he made only 4 films after that. He had a career that lasted 75 years, coming to an end shortly before his death at the age of 88 on Christmas Day 1977. He starred in over 80 films in his lifetime but his name lives on forever.
