The Centre for the Investigation of Sexval Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) has issued an alert for females to remain vigilant when taking public passenger vehicles (PPV) in the Corporate Area.
CISOCA says detectives have received a number of reports in recent times from females who alleged that they were sexu@lly assaulted by men posing as drivers and/or passengers of unregistered taxis.
In light of this, the police are advising that only established and reputable public passenger vehicles should be utilised by commuters.
Additionally, the following are some steps that persons can take to ramp up their personal security when taking public passenger vehicles:
1. Take note of the licence plate number of vehicles and share this information with a family member or trusted friend. Also share a description of the motor vehicle.
2. Along with the licence plate number, take note of the driver—any distinguishing marks or traits. If a PPV badge is displayed, note the name and other details.
3. Always be wary when PPVs stray from the designated route.
Meanwhile, people who may have been victims of sexu@l assaults are being encouraged to report the incident to CISOCA by calling 876-926-4079. Additionally, anyone with information that can assist investigators to nab the culprits is being asked to contact the CISOCA detectives or 311.
