SOA University was founded as Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER) in 1997 in Bhubaneswar.

SOA University is spread over 451 acres campus in the city of Bhubaneswar.

On March 2019, SOA University along with KIIT, Utkal & National Law University granted Category-II Graded Autonomy Status by University Grants Commission to start new courses, off-campus centres, skill development courses. Also, have the freedom to hire foreign faculty, enrol foreign students and run distance learning programmes.

Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Admission Procedure via own entrance test is called (SAAT). The test is being conducted for undergraduate and postgraduate programs offered its constituent institutes/schools.

SOA University, Bhubaneswar has 13 Boys & 11 Girls Hostels at cost INR 90,000/- per annum
