"ISLAND" (1973) Moody Blues (with additional arrangement)

Additional arrangement (2019) in 1973 band style:
piano; flute; oboe; horns; lead guitar; additional mellotron.
Copyright remains with Moody Blues. Written by Justin Hayward.

The original was recorded at Decca Studios, Tollington Park, London on 14th February 1973 and was never finished. It featured demo vocals, some acoustic guitar; bass and drums and of course mellotron. It had some timing issues and, whilst recording these additional arrangements, a tape speed issue which has been resolved by re- pitching . The song lay languishing in the archives until it was located whilst researching for an expanded CD reissue of the album Seventh Sojourn (1972) in 2007. The original is the sole remnant of abortive sessions for a proposed eighth Moody Blues album which was later abandoned. The reasons for "Island" failing to gain a release are unclear or why it was not finished - but about this time the Moody Blues embarked on a 12 month world tour.

Are you hearing that lonely laughter
As the lights go out on you?
Are you getting that sinking feeling
As the truth slips into view

But if you care, don't run away
Your freedom's inside your head
That's what we said

Are you sitting on a tiny island
As the tide rolls in on you?
Are you getting that sinking feeling
As it all comes home to you?

Picture the wings that take you home

Home to the love you need
That's what you need

Are you hearing that lonely laughter
As the lights go out on you?
Are you getting that sinking feeling
It all comes home to you?

But if you care, don't run away
Your freedom's inside your head
That's what we said
That's what we said
